GOVERNANCE
The Association is represented by the General Meeting of Members, which elects a Executive Committee every three years, comprising members who differ in terms of gender, age, skills and background. In turn, the Executive Committee elects the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
General Meeting of Members
It is the supreme body responsible for the organisation’s strategy and, in general, is responsible for:
The members of CO.P.E. are the founders and individuals admitted by the Executive Committee.
Individuals may become members, subject to a resolution by the Executive Committee, provided they submit a written application and have demonstrated an interest in and participation in the organisation’s initiatives for at least three months prior to the application.
Members who are up to date with their membership fees may attend the General Council with voting rights, and each member may be represented by proxy. However, no member may cast more than one vote in addition to their own.
Composition of the General Council: 49 members.
This is the governing body. It is responsible for ensuring that the organisation acts in accordance with its values, its mission and the resolutions of the General Meeting.

The Executive Committee consists of a minimum of five members and may be confirmed or amended by the General Assembly when offices are renewed every three years.
The Bishop who chairs the Commission for Cooperation between Churches of the Sicilian Episcopal Conference is an ex officio member.
Following the election of officers during the 2025 General Assembly, the Board currently comprises 7 board members, of whom 5 are men and 2 are women, who meet on average at least once a month; each board member is assigned responsibility for a specific area of competence in relation to which it manages relations with the designated staff.

Cooperation with Emerging Countries is committed to ensuring the safety of children involved in its activities in Italy and abroad, recognising its responsibility to protect, foster and promote their wellbeing. To this end, it is committed to ensuring and maintaining the highest applicable legal, ethical and moral standards in this area, as set out in the Child Protection Policy, as well as recognising that all Managers, Employees, Contractors and Representatives of the organisation, as well as those of partner organisations who come into contact with children, have a fundamental duty of care towards them.
Every year, COPE is also listed on the Open Cooperazione website with a transparency rating of 97% open-cooperazione.it

Thanks to the calculator developed as part of the “Azioni Concrete, Impronte Leggere” project,
CO.P.E is able to report the CO₂ equivalent emissions resulting from its core activities.
For 2023 alone, the figure stands at 65.756 tonnes of CO₂e, 77 per cent of which, however, is attributable solely
to air travel by staff posted to PVS offices. It is worth highlighting, as shown in the graph, the
positive trend regarding energy consumption: with the advent of the liberalised energy market, COPE has chosen an energy supplier
providing 100% renewable energy, thereby reducing, according to projections, its sector-specific CO₂e emissions by 2000%.
