The project, lasting 8 months, is a post-emergency project that has the general objective of supporting the population affected by the earthquake that occurred in Morocco between 8 and 9 September 2023. Support to the population is provided by five NGOs of FOCSIV that are present in the Moroccan context.

The project presents several interventions to meet the needs of the affected populations both in terms of the first emergency (distribution of tents, hygiene and school kits, psychosocial assistance) and in the subsequent phase (school modules to guarantee the right education, support and assistance paths for families with members with different disabilities). The project therefore provides for the satisfaction of primary needs, but also for the participation in an emergency assistance network in order to direct beneficiaries towards specialized health and protection services offered by other humanitarian actors.

Role of COPE

The COPE provides, on the basis of diagnostics carried out in collaboration with associations and local authorities, the distribution of winter tents in the douars (small clusters of rural municipalities, all located on the High Atlas) identified by the local partner Association El AMANE in Marrakech.

The COPE through its research center OfficinaSociale contributes to the training and support of local staff for thedevelopment of Humanitarian Maps, useful tools for the detection of the needs of the territory in the aftermath of the earthquake, of the perception and degree of reaction to natural disasters and environmental emergencies perceived by the population (survey developed through the social Lab).

The project includes the construction of prefabricated module structures for school continuity to allow the school continuity of the students in the area. The spaces will be set up with desks, chairs, teachers' desks, blackboards and in general with all the school material necessary for carrying out the lessons.

At the same time, the distribution of school kits is planned</ strong>. Since the earthquake deprived the students of the necessary equipment to attend the lessons, school kits will be distributed with the necessary material to follow the lessons and carry out the school activities. The Kit includes teaching material agreed with the Education Directorate and school supplies such as pens, pencils and notebooks.
