Launched by the Cope in 2020, the ‘Ricomincio da te-Je Repars de Toi’ project, co-funded by the AICS (Italian Development Cooperation Agency), aims to have an impact on the equality and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Tunisia through the promotion and strengthening of their rights at both the individual and associative levels. Since 2011, the well-known North African country has shown an increasing awareness of and interest in the rights of persons with disabilities and a better approach to ensuring their socio-economic inclusion.Certainly, it is a more global challenge for the political, economic and social integration of this socially vulnerable category of Tunisian citizens. Therefore, the beneficiaries identified by the project are both persons with disabilities and their families, local associations dealing with this category, and Tunisian institutions. The project in question, which lasts three years, includes a series of activities aimed at the various categories mentioned:
- A multidisciplinary training programme for trainers on ‘Community-based Rehabilitation’ aimed at the socio-educational inclusion of young people with disabilities.
- The capacity building of Tunisian associations promoting the rights and services for persons with disabilities and their families through training activities on advocacy techniques and theatrical awareness-raising activities.
- The establishment of a working table between associations and institutions to develop tools to implement the operational plan on disability being adopted by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
The project activities are carried out in two well-defined areas: the Governorate of Ben Arous and the Governorate of Kairouan . The partners involved in the project are multiple and at different levels of involvement: the Municipality of Kairouan; CO.P.E. Italy; the local counterparts are CO.P.E. Tunisia and LDA, and the associations supporting the project that deal with disabilities are Mettiamoci in Gioco(Italy), Utaim of Ben Arous and Kairouan, ASDA Association and AGIM. During 2020, many activities were carried out despite the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Tunia and the restrictions adopted.
